Meet Charlotte Scott

From corporate burnout to living the dream—caring for the animals I've always loved.

I didn’t take a traditional path to pet sitting—but looking back, it was always where I was meant to be.

I grew up on a farm surrounded by cows, horses, goats, rabbits, dogs, cats, geese, and just about every other animal you can imagine. While other kids were playing video games, I was bottle-feeding kittens and learning that animals aren’t so different from us—they have personalities, preferences, and feelings. They deserve to be understood and cared for with patience and respect.

After college, I did what I thought I was supposed to do. I earned my Bachelor’s in Business Administration and spent over 14 years in Corporate America. On paper, everything looked fine. But inside? I was miserable. I watched talented people lose their jobs in constant layoffs, and I realized I was trading my life for a paycheck in a world that didn’t align with my values.

In July 2007, I made a decision that changed everything: I left corporate life behind to do something that actually mattered to me. I started Paws and Claws Pet Sitting to provide an alternative to traditional boarding—because I knew from experience that not every pet thrives in a kennel. Some animals need the comfort of home, the consistency of their routine, and a caregiver who truly understands them.

That’s what I’ve been doing ever since.

Commitment to Excellence

Always Learning, Always Growing

Loving animals isn’t enough—I wanted to provide the best care possible. So I’ve dedicated myself to continuous education and hands-on experience:

Veterinary Technician Training
In 2011, I attended Vet Tech school for one reason: to deepen my knowledge and provide more comprehensive, confident care for my clients’ pets. I wanted to recognize health issues early, administer medications properly, and handle special needs with expertise—not just good intentions.

Volunteer Work
Over the years, I’ve volunteered with the Wildlife Rescue Coalition, St. Johns County Pet Center, and St. Augustine Humane Society. Working with animals in crisis, rehabilitation, and transition has taught me resilience, compassion, and how to stay calm under pressure.

Ongoing Education
I continue my training through Pet Sitters International (PSI), staying current on best practices, animal behavior, safety protocols, and industry standards. Because the animals in my care deserve nothing less than my absolute best.

Beyond Pet Sitting: A Mission to Help Animals in Need

My commitment to animals goes beyond the pets I care for daily. I’m also a founder and operator of a non-profit cat rescue, Kitty Chicks Rescue, where I work to save, rehabilitate, and rehome cats who have nowhere else to go.

Running a rescue has deepened my understanding of animal behavior, health challenges, and the importance of patience and compassion—especially with animals who have been neglected, abandoned, or traumatized. It’s hard work, often heartbreaking, but incredibly rewarding.

Every animal deserves safety, love, and a second chance. That belief drives everything I do—whether I’m caring for your beloved family pet or rescuing a stray who’s run out of options.
